Moreton-in-Marsh retains its character as a small and friendly Cotswold market town, with good shopping facilities, and an attractive base for tourism. King Charles I granted a charter for the town market in 1637, which still takes place every Tuesday, when the High Street is thronged with market stalls and shoppers from all over the Midlands. The White Hart Royal has played a full part in the history of the town. In the Civil War Moreton was a centre for the Royalist cavalry and King Charles stayed at the White Hart Royal on his final march from his Oxford headquarters. In the 18th century frequent London-Worcester stagecoaches stopped here every day. The hotel has many striking features, though retaining many original features such as old stone walls, mellow beams and a striking cobblestone entrance hall. The restaurant and bar offer freshly prepared meals from an extensive menu together with a good selection of fine wines. The White Hart Royal has 18 fully equipped en-suite bedrooms, including two on the ground floor. Two conference rooms can accommodate up to 80 guests.
